The Maastricht Academy of Architecture offers a unique training course to become an architect, an urban planner or a landscape architect. Its training in planning and designing concurs with a professional training in a working environment (concurrency-education). This professional training is an essential part of the course, it field-tests knowledge and skills by practical experience.
The Maastricht Academy of Architecture (ABM) offers an MA in Architecture. This degree allows to enter the Nederlandse Architectenregister (Dutch Architects’ Register) and to set up practice as an architec in every country of the European Union.
The Academy was founded in 1947. From the first of September 2002 onwards, it has become part of the Hogeschool Zuyd. At the same time, it established a cooperation with the Tilburg Academy of Architecture, and thus also offers a training as urban planner.
The Maastricht Academy of Architecture is situated in the historical city centre of Maastricht and is part of the close web of culture, science and education. The University of Maastricht is close by, with its Faculty of Cultural Sciences. So is the Academie Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts), the Jan van Eyck Academie, the Toneelacademie (Academy of Performing Arts) and the Conservatorium (Academy of Music). Besides Amsterdam, Maastricht is the only city where for decades all the arts have been taught on Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate levels.
